Dive Instructor Training Course - What is the Course Like?
The Instructor Training Course takes 2 weeks full time theoretical and in-water training. The evaluation takes 2-3 days after the course.
The first week of the Instructor Training Course is equivalent of the Assistant Instructor Course. During the second week you will hone your skills and we will help you prepare for the Instructor Evaluation.
Open Water Instructor Course
The Dive Instructor Training Course consists of two full weeks of theoretical and practical training. By the end of the course, you’ll be equipped with knowledge and skills in:
- Delivering classroom presentations on a variety of scuba topics
- Conducting skill briefings
- Demonstrating scuba skills at a professional level
- Teaching and evaluating skills during in-water sessions
- Identifying and correcting student mistakes
- Managing and supervising student groups underwater
- Motivating students and providing effective, constructive feedback
Why become an Open Water Instructor?
Once certified, you’ll be qualified to conduct Scuba Courses as an Open Water Instructor. You’ll be part of new divers' first underwater experience, helping them overcome early challenges and discover the incredible world of diving. Many will remember you as the person who introduced them to life beneath the surface.
With your Open Water Instructor Certification you will automatically become a Buoyancy, Nitrox, Stress and Rescue, Dive Guide, and Science of Diving Specialty Instructor.

Requirements to your the Open Water Instructor Course
To begin the SSI Open Water Instructor Program, you'll find the prerequisites below.
- You have a minimum of 100 dives logged
- You have had your Open Water certification for at least 6 months
- You have a Divemaster Certification (from any agency)
- You are Nitrox Certified (if not, we can add it to your training plan)
- You have done first aid, CPR and oxygen provider training in the past 2 years
- You are at least 18 years old
- Good water fitness (you can swim 375m in 20 minutes and you can tow someone for 100m in 8 minutes)
- Be medically fit for diving (signed by a doctor)
