The Landscape: A Volcanic Playground

The site is defined by its rugged topography. As you descend, the landscape transitions from a gentle, sheltered bay into a series of jagged volcanic walls and caverns. The sunlight dances through the rock formations, creating incredible contrast for underwater photography. But the real personality of Las Eras comes from its marine residents. This is officially the "Trumpetfish Highway" of the south—you will rarely find a site with such a high density of these elegant, motionless hunters. Beyond the trumpetfish, keep your eyes peeled for rays gliding over the sand and large schools of barracuda patrolling the deeper blue.

The Treasure Hunt: What to Look For

Part of the fun at Las Eras is keeping your eyes on the reef for more than just marine life. Hidden within the rocks and crevices are several unique statues that have become part of the site’s legend:

  • The Buddha Statue: A serene figure tucked away in the rocks, watching over the blue at around 12-metres depth.
  • The Virgin Mary: An iconic landmark at around 20 metres
  • The Human-Size Seahorse: A fantastic, artistic sculpture that makes for the ultimate underwater photo op at the far end of the dive site
  • The Woman Statue: Resting hidden at 25 metres, this is the perfect destination for divers heading toward the bottom of the reef.

A Site for Every Diver

Las Eras doesn’t force you to choose between "easy" and "adventurous"—it gives you both.

  • Beginners: The shallow 5m–12m shelves are calm and rich with life, perfect for gaining confidence on a shore dive.
  • Advanced: Drop down to the 25m–30m mark to explore the deeper areas of the dive site.
  • Photographers: With the statues, the caverns, the swim-through, and the trumpetfish, you will fill your memory card in a single dive.
