Teaching Open Water courses is rewarding, but repeatedly teaching entry-level skills can lead to routine. SSI Specialty Instructor Seminars allow you to teach what you are passionate about: whether that’s deep exploration, wreck diving, night diving, or underwater navigation.
Adding specialty teaching ratings makes you significantly more employable at dive centers worldwide, increases your earning potential, and builds the foundational certifications required to reach the SSI Divemaster Instructor (DMI) and Assistant Instructor Trainer (AIT) ratings.

We offer two distinct pathways to earn your Specialty Instructor ratings.
Seminar (Recommended & Fastest)
Take a direct 1- or 2-day seminar with our Instructor Trainer or Master Instructor. You master the specialty standards, conduct academic teaching, demonstrate in-water skill mastery, and learn specialty-specific marketing strategies. You earn your teaching rating immediately upon completion.
Co-Teaching
Co-teach the specialty program alongside an active SSI Specialty Instructor. Note: This path takes longer and depends on customer course volume.

Train under direct mentorship from our in-house Instructor Trainer, educated in Canada alongside top-tier SSI international leadership. Located directly in front of our Abades facility, our primary shore-training site is home to resident sea turtles, giving you a unique dive location combined with rigorous, high-level professional instruction.
We conduct Specialty Instructor seminars across all core and advanced SSI categories. We can run almost any specialty on-demand:
